Asthma and Dust Mites

Within the last few years, the incidence of Asthma has grown tremendously and now it is one of the fastest growing illnesses of the 21st century. There are many reasons for the increase in the number of asthma sufferers, but one of the main culprits is the simple dust mite which can be found in every single home.

Apparently the population of most of the western countries such as America and the UK now spend much of their time indoors; therefore they are even more exposed to the problems that dust mites can cause in those people who suffer with asthma. Luckily people are becoming more aware of the problems associated with dust mites and are eager to solve the problems within their own homes and improve their indoor air quality.

Many asthma sufferers have real problems with the air quality in their homes, which can become so bad at times it can have a severe effect on their lives. For children especially if their sleep is disturbed due to unstable asthma caused by problems in the home environment, it can lead on to poor school performance, poor behaviour and general other problems. Therefore it can be seen as a matter of some urgency that the air quality in the home is improved and dust mites eradicated as much as possible.
So how can you control the air quality in your home and eradicate those dust mites, especially if someone in the family suffers from Asthma? Well there are several ways, and a few of the most effective ones are listed below.

Vacuum your house on a frequent basis, don”t give those dust mites a chance to accumulate. Use a vacuum cleaner which has special filters.

Make sure you dust on a frequent basis (Though go easy on the polish as this can be an irritant)

Keep an eye on the pollen count (especially at the time of year when it is notoriously high), and make sure you keep the windows firmly closed. Fresh air is good, but not when it makes someone”s life a misery.
If your home has air conditioning, ensure you change the filters frequently.
When cleaning your home, ensure you use a high temperature steam cleaner which will assist in destroying the dust mites.

Many companies have realized there is a lot of money to be made from investing in products to assist people with asthma, and there are now many products out there on the market which claim to help people cope with their asthma symptoms by destroying the and filtering dust mites and other problems in the home. These include sprays, vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners and other products.

However these products can be very expensive so ensure you do your due diligence before parting with your money.
