Diabetes Mellitus Explained
Diabetes is another name for Diabetes Mellitus, which is a disease caused by a defective metabolism and blood sugar levels which are too high.
What happens then is that insulin levels become too low or insulin resistance gets defective.
As a result you may have increased urine, extreme thirst symptoms, extreme tiredness and even a loss in weight.
With only mildly increased sugar levels symptoms may not be there at all.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus occurs when cells in the pancreas which produce insulin start to die off. When this occurs you will experience a lack of insulin in the body.
This type usually found in a child or a young adult, is juvenile diabetes. Daily injections of insulin and detailed recording of blood glucose levels help keep it under control.
And it is important to keep it under control because loss of limbs, blindness or going into a diabetic coma are all possibilities.
So if you think that you may have symptoms make sure that your medical professional checks you out thoroughly. The earlier the better and remember, if properly treated people with Type 1 diabetes can have a normal healthy life.
