If you plan before taking a trip you will reduce your stress levels. If you happen to be a diabetic this is important. Here are 5 simple travel tips to use and help with managing your diabetes. Make a special note of these if traveling abroad.

1)  Make sure to have a check-up before traveling. Your A1C blood sugar levels, your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels should be correct. If going abroad make sure to get any needed injections for countries you intend visiting.

2)  Make sure to have on you a diabetes medical ID. Try to have one in the language used in the country you intend visiting. This will help avoid medical problems becaise of a lack of understanding.

3)  Have all medication and glucose snacks in your hand luggage because you may need them urgently. Packing them in your main luggage risks them going astray.

4)  Have medication in the original wrapping complete with the pharmacy labels. This will explain why you are carrying drugs and possibly syringes for insulin injection.

5)  Note time zone differences. Set your watch correctly. You may have to recalculate timings for your medication.

So common sense and planning can make your trip enjoyable and help keep you healthy.
